XVIII – The Moon
You know, when you are outside, and the moonlight is shining, so it can be hard to see things how they really are, then so it is with The Moon Tarot card. This card suggests that whilst you may be seeing a situation, you may not be seeing it, in its true light!
In some cases, not seeing the full light is of your own making – i.e., you are hiding from facts you know to be true but cannot face. In other cases, somebody else could be hiding or shielding you from the full information. This uncertainty can make it difficult to decide what to do; you may feel like you do not know who to trust, and you may even start to second-guess yourself.
There are strong ties with this card, dreams and your unconscious thoughts. It can be equally difficult to interpret information that comes through in a dream. What is fact, what is fiction, and what is the dream trying to tell you – if anything?
Takeaway from The Moon card – it’s important to sort out the muddle. What is the truth, and what is a falsehood? Only with that straight can the position be clarified and understood.
XIX – The Sun
In contrast to The Moon card, getting The Sun card in a Tarot spread is much more joyful. The Sun card represents love, affection, generosity, creativity and spontaneity – you can think of it as an enriching card; it signifies everything we need to be fulfilled and to express our true selves.
Often, this card appears when it is the beginning or birth of something new. This could be quite literally a person – a new baby, but could be the start of a new relationship: romantic/platonic. Or a marriage, a new business, a job promotion or a new home.
When the sun shines, most of us feel happier – we feel alive, refreshed and like we want to take hold of every moment and enjoy it, just as it is with The Sun card. But, like almost all cards in Tarot, there is also some subtext – in this case, a warning. This card, of course – teaches us to rejoice in love, but we must also keep a level head – it is essential that we maintain our sense of self and not depend on others to complete us. Should the situation arise that someone leaves us – it can feel, quite literally, like the light has been switched off!
If you draw this card when you are experiencing a difficult period – take solace in the fact that even when it is cloudy – the sun is still shining; it is just temporarily covered up!
