We conclude our Major Arcana Tarot series with the Judgement and The World cards.
XX – Judgement
While this card is called “Judgement,” a more fitting word might be “forgiveness” as that encapsulates its true meaning. When this card appears, it serves as a reminder that you may need to forgive someone and emphasises the importance of doing so. It also highlights the significance of second chances. On the other hand, it could indicate that you have committed some wrongdoing and are in need of forgiveness.
In such situations, it’s crucial to ask yourself difficult questions. Reflect on your role in recent circumstances and consider if there were better ways to handle things. Instead of justifying your actions, this card encourages you to take ownership of your part and accept responsibility.
The design of the card typically features a trumpet (sometimes played by an angel) and a gravesite. This imagery serves as a reminder that we, as humans, are constantly being judged and are judging others. Forgiving someone wholeheartedly for their actions is not an easy task, especially when we have been hurt before. However, this card urges us to move forward and release our anger so that we don’t continue hurting ourselves.
Forgiveness often brings about a sense of rebirth or renewal. Whether you are forgiving yourself or extending forgiveness to another person, embracing fresh starts and second chances can lead to personal rejuvenation.
XXI – The World
As you might anticipate from the last card in the Major Arcana, it symbolises achievements and conclusions. When you draw this card, you have usually attained something, and in a full circle way – you are ready to move on to a new journey or venture.
Of course, with endings and beginnings, change inevitably follows. This change can manifest in various ways, ranging from subtle shifts to monumental transformations. Moreover, it is important to note that change does not solely pertain to physical alterations; it also encompasses modifications in attitude, thinking patterns, and thought processes.
Oftentimes when we achieve a long-held goal, there is an element of anti-climax felt after the celebrations have died down. You may even quite quickly wonder what you should do next. It is of course acceptable to revel in your achievements and take a break. However, The World card does remind us that it is always important to have something to work towards in life.
If this card appears when you are experiencing a difficult period, then take hope in the fact there is so much left on the table to live for. This card is a promise of your strength and ability, and a reminder to not limit yourself. Have faith in yourself and your abilities. The world is literally your oyster!
