History & Mythology

The word ‘Gemini’ comes from the Indo-European root ‘yem’ (to pair) and is also the Latin word for ‘twins’. In ancient Rome the sign stood for life and death and was the symbol of coexistence between the mortal and immortal parts of man, deriving from a story in Greek Mythology. The twins of Gemini are usually represented as Castor and Pollux, the sons of Zeus and Leda. Castor was a renowned horseman while Pollux was a boxer. During a dispute over a cattle raid with their cousins, Castor met his death and Pollux, was granted immortality by Zeus. However, he persuaded his father to share the gift with his brother Castor, and the two twins lived on spending alternate days on Olympus as gods, and in Hades as mortals. The history of the story depicts a strong love bond between the two twins and their traits can be recognised in the personalities of those born under the Gemini star sign.

Personality Traits

All signs of the zodiac have their positive traits as well as their darker side, however this is perhaps more notable in the Gemini. Geminis can be enthusiastic and insightful but also restless and unfocused. The world of a Gemini is one of duality. Gemini can like one thing and its opposite and their traits range from one end of the spectrum to the other.

As a Gemini, a lot of your positive qualities come from your light hearted, social side. You are popular amongst others and love to talk, with the ability to hold different conversations all at once! You have a wide variety of interests and are happiest when you have plenty of friends and people around you. Gemini is the multi-tasker of the zodiac, often with various projects and ideas on the go at once. While having such a busy schedule often leads to a colourful and interesting life, your short attention span means that you bore easily and find it hard to finish everything you’ve started. On the same note you may also tire of people just as easily, making it hard for you to build strong friendships or romances. Beware – your boundless energy and curiosity may end up distracting you from what is really important!

Gemini Strengths

Geminis versatile mind is one of their great strengths, they make fantastic multi-taskers, and they have many ideas that flow thick and fast. Geminis are great communicators, in fact they are the most talkative of all the signs.

Gemini Weaknesses

In is not in a Geminis nature to hold a secret, they love to gossip too much! Their manipulative nature, means they are not afraid to bend the truth or change stories if it suits their needs. They sometimes won’t even be able to pick out their own fact from fiction – inconvenient truths may be discarded…

Gemini at Work

Being busy is what Geminis like, they are versatile and lend themselves to both team work and project leaders. They do like to come up with new ideas and solve problems. A desk job is unlikely to suit them, as they like to be up and moving. They also need a job that is stimulating on an on-going basis, their tendency to get bored easily, means they will not suit a repetitive job with similar tasks to be completed every day.

Geminis can be argumentative by nature, so when it comes to managing them it is best to be very clear with your instructions, and don’t give them room to question the direction – the more logical you are the better.

Criticism is not easily taken by a Gemini, although they may be quick to critique others. If you are able to put a positive spin on doing things differently as opposed to outwardly suggesting that what they are doing is not working, you are likely to get a better outcome.

Gemini and Love

If you like something in particular, have an interesting hobby, then a Gemini is likely to be on board for joining in. They are adventurous by nature and will try anything once! So, you can certainly think outside of the box for a first date experience. Geminis do have a vain quality about them, so seeing you enjoy yourself will be an ego boost for them. Geminis love of doing new things and craving excitement can make dating in the early stages a lot of fun, but be warned as time goes on in a relationship usually you might settle into more sedate activities like watching a film, in this scenario Gemini will find a way to interject some missing action with questions, comments, laughter, re-enactments and more…

You will likely have to chase a Gemini, they can be a bit flighty and not always stick to made plans. They do have quite a need for freedom, and this can make it difficult to settle down in a long-term relationship. Sometimes this can be navigated by giving a Gemini space and time to do their own thing, but this can backfire as they may take the opportunity to stray romantically.

Gemini and Family

As children Gemini characters need a lot of parental supervision and input, they can be quite high-maintenance, occupying them with different activities is the key. They are more likely to seek your approval for the project they are working on, than they are to search for displays of affection from you.

Within a family dynamic, Geminis can be relied up on to bring zest, joy and high energy. On the whole they are more likely to be allies with any siblings or close relations, than they are rivals. It is in a Geminis nature to forgive and forget quickly and easily. A sibling may hang onto a memory of an event, that their Gemini brother or sister will have long ago forgotten – it was probably just not that important to them.

In later life when a Gemini becomes a parent, they will generally thrive and do a good job. They like the role of matriarch in the family and are genuinely interested in their children. However, Geminis need time to themselves and to their own thoughts, so there can be a clash of attention when Geminis have Gemini children!

Geminis will find the burden of worrying about their parental responsibilities – finances, education needs etc overwhelming at times, as they are susceptible to stress and worry.

Gemini and Friends

Geminis make for really fun friends, but they can be relied upon more during good times than bad. They are not especially empathetic making them not the best choice if you need emotional support, they are better relied upon for logical analysis of a problem or situation.

Their curiosity about the world, make Geminis fun to have around, and they will respond positively to spontaneous activities. In a group they will keep you all amused with their funny anecdotes and tales of goings-on, just don’t be surprised if you are in the story a time or two, or if embellishment of some of the details takes place!

Famous Gemini

Gemini are often greatly talented, and many of them go on to become writers, actors and singers. As a Gemini, you share your star sign with some of the most powerful and influential figures in the world. Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Marilyn Monroe and Paul McCartney, were all born under the star sign Gemini. Their great abilities to speak to people and maintain many different talents (and excel at all) make them typical yet unique.
