Making the transition from cuddly knits to our swimwear can be a daunting prospect, especially when so many of us leave that all important summer diet plan to the very last minute. After a couple of seasons of overindulgence, we have all got a little out of shape. We often relax and lose motivation over Christmas and Easter, then when summer comes back around the corner we panic about the extra few pounds that have accumulated. But stay calm! It’s never too late to get your summer body back, and we have a few great steps to help you get in shape and ready to face the summer with confidence. 1- Veg Out – Incorporate all of your 5 a day back into your diet. Fruit and veg in a range of different colours contain key nutrients which are essential when losing weight. Super foods include kale, blueberries, broccoli and goji berries. 2- Say no to the Yo-Yo – It can be tempting to crash diet before summer, but try to stay away from yo-yoing. Instead, come up with a realistic and achievable plan that you know you will be able to stick to for the long run. 3- Drink water – Our brains can often confuse thirst with hunger. We can actually satisfy a rumbling tummy with a glass of ice cold water! If you don’t like water, then go for a low calorie juice or fruit infused tea. 4- Spice up your life – Healthy food doesn’t have to be bland or boring. For a flavour boost, add some spices or chillies to your meal to stimulate your taste buds. The strong flavours will distract from the missing calories, and your body feeling more satisfied. 5- Get active – Combining your diet with exercise will make it twice as effective. Physical activity not only makes you look great on the outside but it can do wonders for your confidence and wellbeing. Exercising everyday will make you significantly more positive and more likely to stick to your diet plan. 6- Pick a plan – For some of us simply eating small, healthy portions is simple and effective way of losing weight, however you may be more inclined to follow a certain plan. The most recent craze that’s sweeping the nation is the 5:2 diet. The plan follows a fasting format, where you have five days of ‘normal’ eating throughout the week, with two days of restricted calories (500kcal a day for women, 600kcal for men.) Hailed as the diet for people who like food, the latest celebrities to have lost weight on the 5:2 diet include This Morning host Philip Schofield, and food writer Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Other stars rumoured to be following the plan include Beyonce, Miranda Kerr and Ben Affleck. It may not feel like it at the moment but summer is on the way, so remember don’t be too hard on yourself, follow our tips and get your body ready for the beach season! Good Luck!
