In extracts from her new autobiography ‘No Regrets’, Coleen Nolan revealed that a psychic told her of her sister Bernie’s death, 18 months before she passed away. The singer and Loose Women star was on holiday in California at the time, and says she is still haunted by the experience. Bernie Nolan had won one fight against breast cancer in 2010, but became worried about a second lump in April 2012; just as sister Coleen was due to go on holiday. Reassured by her sister, she decided to go ahead with the trip believing her sister would be okay. It was on a walk down the world famous Venice Beach when Coleen spotted a sign for a fortune-teller. The former Loose Women presenter admits she was initially sceptical about paying the $20 admission fee, but brushed her doubts aside and went in. She writes; ‘The fortune-teller looked ancient and incredibly small – she must have been in her 80s at least…I had no idea what the (Tarot) cards meant but the results were obviously agitating her…’Then she said: ‘Someone really close to you isn’t all right. Is it your sister?…I’m so sorry but it’s come back and there’s nothing the doctors can do…They (the cards) say the next 18 months are going to be awful. Your sister will be strong and courageous and fight it to the end. But she will not win’… ‘I was asking myself how this woman could possibly know. I hadn’t breathed a word to her about Bernie and she was telling me I was going to lose her…I was so distressed I stood up, knocking my chair over and ran off. The next morning I got the call.’ The terrible news was confirmed by Coleen’s management the next day, who revealed that the cancer Bernie initially beat in 2010 had returned – spreading to her brain, bones, lung and liver. Despite the prognosis, Bernie remained firmly optimistic during a long distance call shortly before Coleen returned home to be by her side. Over the next few months Bernie’s health deteriorated before she eventually passed away in a hospice surrounded by her loved ones in July 2013. At her funeral service, held at the Grand Theatre in Blackpool, Coleen was once again reminded of her visit to the Venice Beach Tarot reader when she looked at her husband. ‘She had warned me that Ray would be hit hard by Bernie’s death,’ she recalled. ‘And now here it came. When Ray set eyes on the car carrying Bernie he was the first to weep.’ Like Coleen, there are plenty of reasons that somebody would want to consult a professional psychic.
