English Premier League football clubs have spent £485 million on acquiring players this year, which is £120 million more than last year and a rise of 33%. Five clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, were responsible for 66% of this spending on their own, each spending more than £50 million on transfers.

Arsenal acquired Mikel Arteta and Chelsea got Raul Meireles, each for over £10 million. Stoke City also broke their transfer record by paying £10 million to Tottenham Hotspur in exchange for Peter Crouch.
