We all need sunshine and light in our lives and we sometimes forget that spirituality rather than material goods and possessions are the key to real happiness. In some of the poorest areas of the world, people still try to make their lives better by bringing light into them, which is exactly what some of the people living in slums in the Philippines are doing in a very literal way!Light can be spread to slum buildings with only a clear plastic bottle.

The houses in the slums are provided with electricity but it is too costly for many to afford. Because of the materials used for building (often just sheets of corrugated iron and some tarpaulin) and the closeness of the buildings, there aren’t any windows, meaning it’s pitch black inside, even during the day. You can imagine the effect this has on people’s spirits, and the damage that working and living in darkness can do to your psychic balance.

However, an ingenious new invention is spreading through the slums. A simple plastic bottle, filled with water and a little bleach (to prevent algae) can be sealed in a hole in a building’s roof. The sunlight hitting the bottle is then refracted through the water into the building itself and, on a sunny day, provides as much light as a 60 watt bulb.

This sort of ingenuity shows how much difference we can all make in our day to day lives, finding small ways to improve our environment and thus out outlook, attitude and happiness. If you could use a little more light in your life, a psychic or tarot reading from one of our mediums can really provide you with a whole new way of looking at things.
