Is Money The Key To Happiness?

The majority of us will be tightening our belts this year, in order to save money. But although we know that constantly worrying about money is no fun and incredibly draining, are limitless funds really the key to having a happy and fulfilled life?

You may often find yourself with little or no spare money to spend on yourself and the people you love and the pressure this feeling can have on you can lead to negative thoughts & feelings and leaving you feeling generally low. You may ask yourself whether it is really possible for you to really be as successful in your life and achievements as somebody with unlimited amounts of cash. Or if people with little or no material possessions can be genuinely happy with their lives? The answer is, it is very possible, and depending on your outlook on life you can achieve anything you want to with a positive attitude. Remember that the best things in life are often free, keeping good company and doing simple things that make you happy are good ways to keep content in spite of money troubles and you can enrich your life with other things that don’t have to cost money.

Often we find that even the rich and famous are not satisfied with their lives. In recent weeks we heard the sad news that Whitney Houston had passed away. Despite her extravagant lifestyle and endless cash flow, the singer was unfortunately depressed and extremely unhappy with her life, causing her to give up on her career and leading to her untimely death. Fans watched Whitney Houston spend her millions carelessly on alcohol and drugs, ending up with little to show for her success, showing that sometimes too much money can be dangerous in the wrong hands and can often lead you to indulge in harmful actions.

When spent wisely however, money can be great and can help you do things that you never thought possible; but how much money is too much? Many people who come from rich backgrounds end up wasting the money that is given to them on meaningless items that they don’t really need. Most of us don’t need millions of pounds in the bank to achieve life time dreams and find that those dreams don’t come from spending money but from finding contentment within our lives.

Many of us look at the wealth and lifestyles of others and often wish that for ourselves, whether it’s a new car, big house or fancy clothes. However coveting what others have can be dangerous, leading to acts of jealousy and resentment. If you find yourself doing this then take a moment to look at the things you do have. You can feel lucky in different ways, if you are blessed with good family and friends, a stable job or good health then take the time to reflect on this and be thankful for the things that you have. And remember that money can’t always buy you happiness!
